Evolution Sunday

Evolution is how He did it

Thanks for another wonderful piece. Like philosopher Anthony Flew, I was an atheist all my life until I learned more about science. It was reading about astrophysics and DNA that made me believe there was a great Artist and Scientist behind reality. The universe has mathematical principles behind it, and DNA is encoded information. How could that come about by accident? The chances are far too small. As far as creating the world in six days, my mom, a committed Christian, always said "God's day may be equal to a billion of our years." For a timeless being, that makes sense. For a force of conscious creativity, wouldn't it be more interesting for Him to take his time and make a huge variety of things -- planets, black holes, dinosaurs? The more I continue to learn about the natural world, the more I feel secure that there is a God.
