thank you

I would like to personally thank Bill for stating the obvious. If everyone in the world was able to see the futility of the madness that is religion, and start appreciating and respecting their peers in what has become a rat race known as humanity, we could finally have a world free of bias and hatred towards others that can only come from self righteous semites insisting that their god..is the best god...and i'll kill you if you disagree.

Bill Is god

Religion is for people who are afraid to go to hell...spirtuality, on the other hand, is for those of us who have been there.

If human beings suddenly lost the ability to feel smug, would Bill Maher cease to exist?

Individualism vs corporations

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. But people the world over continue to trade the chance of life after death for the
possibility of heaven on Earth. Megalomaniacs, religions and states seize power all too regularly, only to drive their perception of what is not human from the face of the earth.
The male dominated religions tore power from the Pagans. Today it is the Corporation that wields the rod and sceptre. As always, at the expense of the individual.
Only the Declaration has taken the hand of the individual as statists, theists and agnostics alike once declared, with unbending certainty, that without the individual we are nothing.
Bill, your perceptions are astute, as ever, I wish I had your acerbic wit. Religion is always fair game, but don't be afraid to take a crack at any organization.
Can't see the forest for the trees? Not with corporate blinders. They focus on the forest and have no qualms of decapitating individual trees - after all it won't be them.

Thumbs up

Mahr simply says what others are afraid to say. Why is religion such a ..sacred cow.. that it can't be mocked?

Very Funny! As a pastor what I find disturbing is how the people being ridiculed fail to see that they are the ones who make a joke out of God and the Bible with their religion. People like Bill Mahr just know how to point out the obvious in a way that makes me laugh. I'm praying God has a sense of humor.

Thank God for this.Not funny

Sure hope I won't be in the same place as him in the hereafter.Distusting--this is what's happening to the world now when there is jokes of religion and the bible. And people wander where our God is.Well I've found him and I will keep believeing in him BUT this is what our country is about. We can all have our own beliefs and speak out on it.That is one of many things I thank God for.I will not watch him again.

Yes, very funny.

More often than not, Mahr comes across as a mean-spirited hedonist. I cannot fathom why Christians would want to stand beside him and laugh while he mocks other Christians and religion in general. It's fine to say that you don't like Tom DeLay but why sit there and laugh while another person tosses stones at him?

I recognize that some might call this self-effacement "humility" or "having a sense of humor." But it strikes me as being devoid of any sense of proper pride. Personally, I don't trust anyone who declares their identity by ridiculing it at the same time and I think Mahr certainly ridicules religion.

Perhaps, I've just misunderstood the intent of the author... but this is a tendency I've noticed on this site before and I find it unfortunate because SOMA provides a religious voice that is much needed (and because any promotion of Kierkegaard is always a good thing).
