Sweet Revenge

Father Richard on August 29, 2006 08:26 PM EST writes:
Christians are taught to "turn the other cheek," and there's nothing wrong with that. It's scriptural. But it's also simplistic, if taken too literally all the time.

How could anyone survive if they always let every person who walks over them to walk over them again, and again?

This essay offers an imaginative and healthy response to some of life's less pleasant realities. We shouldn't overreact to the constant, mundane indignities we all suffer, nor should we let them defeat us.

Sometimes a little harmless revenge is good for everyone involved.

Therapeutic for the victim.

Enlightening, one hopes, for the annoying offender.

Peace.
